If you met Samantha in person you would know the answer to the second part of that question. To meet her is to love her, to be touched by her sweet and loving nature, to be changed by seeing such a beautiful child in a wheelchair, to understand even a little about what a challenge her daily life must be, and to want to make a difference in her life. No family could ever be prepared for the horrific events that took place on a beautiful spring day in 2003. As then, eight-year-old Samantha Allen crossed the street in front of her home, and was struck by a car. Her injuries included the same type of spinal cord injury that the late Christopher Reeve suffered. Samantha is confined to a wheelchair and requires 24-hour medical care. But Samantha is more than the result of a horrific car accident. More than a list of medical diagnoses. She is a beautiful girl with gorgeous eyes and shining blonde hair. She is an artist, and dreams of being a rock star. She is a sister and daughter who proclaimed that the best part of going to Disney World wasn't the rides or characters or plane trip, but spending time with her family. She has captured the hearts of people throughout Indianapolis, including business and civic leaders. She loves to do all the things any girl does, only with the limitations that quadriplegia brings. She loves to go to the mall, dancing (with her eyes), singing, dressing up as a diva, butterflies, and flowers. One of her wishes is to have a flower garden with a gazebo. She loves cats, but sister Cheyenne is allergic, so no cat! Samantha may be eligible one day to receive a specially trained capuchin monkey from Helping Hands to help with her daily activities.Of course, no one knows Samantha better than her mom, Priscilla and through Priscilla's words you can get to know Samantha better. You can help another child live a better life by making a donation so that together, we can make the vision of Samantha's House a reality. | |
